Biography:
Dr. MacLennan, son of Angus and Agnes (Coady) MacLennan, was born in Lebret, Saskatchewan, on April 11, 1930. Raised in Saskatchewan’s Qu’Appelle Valley, he attended elementary school at Lebret Public School followed by secondary school at Campion College in Regina.

For his post-secondary education, Dr. MacLennan first attended St. Paul’s College at the University of Manitoba, where he obtained a B.A. in 1950. He began pre-medicine courses at the University of Saskatchewan, and then studied medicine at the University of Manitoba. He graduated with a medical degree in 1957. Dr. MacLennan completed an internship program at Gray Nuns’ Hospital in Regina in 1958.

Dr. MacLennan began post-graduate training in diagnostic radiology at Gray Nuns’ Hospital, followed by an additional two years at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. In 1962, he was certified in Diagnostic Radiology by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Moving to Chatham that same year, Dr. MacLennan began his practice in Diagnostic Radiology at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He served at St. Joseph’s Hospital for over 38 years, until he retired in 2000.

Dr. MacLennan was very proud of both his Scottish and Cape Breton heritage, and enjoyed attending Highland Games. He was an avid reader, especially history, and detective novels. He also collected art, including paintings by Native artists Allen Sapp and Michael Lonechild.

Dr. MacLennan passed away on June 19, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Ann-Marie, children: Nicholas, Gabrielle, Valerie, and Mairi, as well as seven grandchildren.
